加拿大北部天空出現神秘彩色光柱，絕美壯麗的景觀媲美幸福極光

當我們到進入冬季的北極圈旅遊時，最令人期待的就是可以看到象徵幸福的極光。但如果你是長年居住在通往北極圈門戶的安大略(Ontario)，極光可能完全引起不了你的興趣，只想要在溫暖的被窩裡睡覺比較實際。

這天的凌晨1:30，居住在安大略North Bay的Timothy Joseph Elzinga 一如往常地在被窩裡，已經進入了甜蜜的夢鄉，但卻突然被他兩歲小孩Gibson搖醒，叫他趕快去看屋外神秘的光束。Elzinga也不敢相信自己的眼睛，就好像在《Star Trek》裡看到的光束傳送一樣，一道道彩色的光束豎立在天空，這一幅壯麗絕美的景色，是他一生中從未看過的景象。根據NASA的解釋，這跟北極光一點關係也沒有，應該是一種當地的自然現象，也就是日柱或光柱(註1)。能看到這種神奇景象的人，應該也算是一種生活上的幸運與驚喜了。

Light Pillars Over Charlotte, MI Airport Night of January 5th 2017 As temperatures dropped to single digits with calm conditions, moisture in the air became crystallized commonly referred to as 'diamond dust.' The shape of the ice crystals is like a little plate that reflects light. As the diamond dust floats over light sources the ice crystals reflect light downwards towards our eyes (or camera sensor) and form what's called a light pillar. I took quite a few photos around my hometown of Charlotte, MI this night. I'll post a few more in the near future. This panorama might be my favorite from the night. The sweeping searchlight made a really cool fading on and off light pillar that I have video and time-lapse of of.
